Dr. Whitney Mascaro, Ph.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist (She/Her/Hers)

I am Dr. Whitney Mascaro, a compassionate and dedicated psychologist committed to serving clients on their mental health journey. I love working with adolescents and young adults, but am happy to work with older adults as well. I specialize in working with individuals navigating anxiety, social anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, substance abuse/recovery, and trauma. With expertise in various therapeutic approaches, I primarily work from emotion-focused and attachment-based orientations. Depending on each person’s unique needs, I incorporate interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy.

As for my education and training, I graduated from the University of Virginia with a Masters in Counselor Education in 2018. From there, I attended West Virginia University’s Ph.D. program in Counseling Psychology and graduated in 2023. I completed my predoctoral internship at the College of William & Mary’s Counseling Center. My research areas of interest include childhood trauma, bullying, violence, and mass violence in school settings. My dissertation was on college students’ feelings of safety as it relates to guns on campus with a focus on racially minoritized students’ experiences.

Born and raised in Richmond, VA, I live with my spouse, labradoodle, and tuxedo cat. I enjoy practicing yoga, watching sports, and spending time near any body of water.
